The science
Guided focused-attention meditation
Guided reduced breathing is a short guided meditation for a longer breath-led relaxation practice that gently quiets breathing without strain.. It is intentionally brief (20 minutes) so Flowe can schedule it around real calendar pressure instead of asking the user to find a large uninterrupted block. The evidence base is framed carefully: mindfulness and attention practices show moderate benefits for some stress-related outcomes, while brief structured breathing is especially plausible for short arousal downshifts.
The protocol is recommended when breath awareness practice, relaxation before sleep, morning breathing routine. It uses a narrow attentional anchor, plain-language orientation, and a small closing cue so the user leaves with one next action rather than a vague promise. It should be treated as a supportive practice, not a treatment, sleep cure, productivity guarantee, or claim that a single session will change mood on demand.
When NOT to use this
This protocol may be the wrong tool — or need care — for:
- If focusing on breath or body sensations increases distress, stop the practice and choose a grounding activity or appropriate professional support instead.
- Use care when breath restriction feels distressing; choose a gentler or more appropriate protocol instead.
- Use care when user is driving; choose a gentler or more appropriate protocol instead.
- Use care when respiratory symptoms needing medical care; choose a gentler or more appropriate protocol instead.
This is not medical advice. If any of these describe you, talk to your clinician before integrating this protocol.
